Sensorial Curriculum: What’s It All About?
October 19th 2022
A favorite part of the Children’s House classroom is the Sensorial area. The children are naturally drawn to this space. It is self-directed learning, and wonderful to watch their discoveries!
The Sensorial Curriculum helps the child build and refine their senses through the concrete organization and exploration of materials. The purpose of the sensorial works is to support the development of visual and auditory memory. These works help a child to understand the concept of a sequence and support directionality. The skills of sorting and grading are practiced through these works. Children develop a sense of dimension and the concept of parts of a whole. Through works in sets of ten, this curriculum lays the foundation for the preparation of mathematics.
