Elementary Middle School

At Inly, Shadow Days provide a unique opportunity for our Upper Elementary students to step into the world of Middle School, experiencing both the academic and social-emotional aspects of life as a seventh and eighth grader.

During these events, current sixth graders connect with Middle School students, gaining valuable insight into what lies ahead.

Shadow Days offer a rare chance to “try on” the future—to see what fits, what might need some adjustment, and what simply needs time to grow. For many students, Middle School feels just right. Their enthusiastic reactions say it all:

“That was more fun than I thought it would be!”
“When can we do that again?”
“Next year, when we are in Middle School...”

But the learning isn’t one-sided. Shadow Days also provide our seventh and eighth graders with an opportunity to reflect on their own growth and leadership. Their warm welcome and eagerness to support younger classmates are a testament to the strong sense of community at Inly:

“Welcome to our sixth-grade visitors!”
“I am thankful to our UE friends today.”
“Can I show them everything?”

These experiences deepen students’ appreciation for one another and reinforce the values at the heart of an Inly education—curiosity, mentorship, and a strong, supportive community. Each Shadow Day is filled with new discoveries, familiar Montessori teaching techniques, and a shared excitement for the journey ahead.
