Alumni Appreciation Week

What was your life trajectory beyond Inly?

I was lucky enough to be able to pursue the study of archaeology, which I had been interested in since I was an elementary student. I went to New York University for both undergraduate and graduate school, where I received a Master’s in Art History and Egyptology. I’ve worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and with the Smithsonian, excavated in Egypt and Turkey, and I am an adjunct professor at Adelphi University.

About 7 years ago, my career took a swerve, and I ended up taking a job at the children’s publisher Scholastic, where I am in charge of corporate social responsibility.

What is currently exciting you most in your life/work?

My grandmother was a librarian who took pride in making sure the library was accessible for everyone in her community, so being able to honor her spirit with the work I get to do at Scholastic is so meaningful. I get to help put over 5 million free books into children’s hands every year, and I am so grateful for that opportunity.

How do you think Inly shaped or inspired you as a learner?

Having a Montessori education was foundational to who I am as a learner. I was encouraged to pursue my unique interests, treated with respect by those around me, and was given support when I needed it, while also helping support my peers. In fact, it was a book about Pompeii that I got as a student at a Scholastic Book Fair that helped fuel my early interest in archaeology! I love that things have come full circle!

What piece of advice do you have for Inly students?

Lessons are everywhere, not just in the classroom, so absorb as much as possible about the world around you—and beyond. Do not be afraid to say what you don’t know or acknowledge when you are wrong or may need help. These are some of the hardest things that adults struggle with, but once you learn how to embrace them, you can truly become a lifelong learner and can’t imagine the opportunities that will open up for you.

Are you an Inly/TMCS Almni with a story to share?

Tell us here, and we’ll send you a Starbucks gift card as a special thank you!
