Alumni Q&A: Mike Filbey
Alumni Appreciation Week
What was your life trajectory beyond Inly?
I remained lifelong friends with several Inly classmates, including Kyle DeSisto and Chelsea Landon. In high school, I built a startup and went on to co-found ButcherBox.com, where I met my wonderful wife Molly Shanley. I also attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Currently, I’m making coffee over at SlackTide in Hanover and working on a nonprofit called Pepper (joinpepper.org).
What is currently exciting you most in your life/work?
Trying something totally different in working at a coffee shop. I love interacting with people all the time and learning different skills. It’s nice feeling more connected to the community and getting away from my desk.
How do you think Inly shaped or inspired you as a learner?
Inly taught me that everyone has potential and that it’s good to seek it out and get creative. I became more curious and better at working with others.
What piece of advice do you have for Inly students?
There’s no right or wrong path. Just be yourself and enjoy every day.
are you an inly/tmcs almni with a story to share?
Tell us here, and we’ll send you a Starbucks gift card as a special thank you!
