Alumni Q&A: Elisa Sipols ’08
Alumni Appreciation Week
What was your life trajectory beyond Inly?
After Inly, I attended Thayer Academy and Boston College. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education and psychology and later a master’s degree in bilingual bicultural education from DePaul University. After college, I spent a year volunteering as a paralegal for immigrants and refugees through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and since then have spent time teaching in Peru and Chicago. In a transition period, I also spent a few months working back at Inly!
What is currently exciting you most in your life/work?
After years of teaching in various schools and settings, I recently decided to pursue a degree in social work! I am excited about this next chapter and looking forward to focusing on the mental and social-emotional health of refugee children.
How do you think Inly shaped or inspired you as a learner?
My Inly education has absolutely shaped my global-minded and justice-oriented perspective. I am eternally grateful for the experiential learning opportunities and the school’s encouragement to learn about, reflect on, and combat biases of others’ identities and experiences.
What piece of advice do you have for Inly students?
To enjoy the small daily moments with classmates and teachers! It is so special to be part of a close-knit community, and it can be hard to find that later on in life.
